It’s All about Your Laboratory Data

Domain knowledge is critical to a successful data migration effort. Migration of laboratory data is not a straightforward extract translate load (ETL) project for several reasons. The business rules have to be highly customized because the definition of laboratory data records is subtly different between applications, between companies and between sites. Fields named the same thing in one application may have a different meaning in another and data defined in a legacy application may not even be necessary in a new application. Complicating laboratory data migration even more, the order in which data is loaded can affect the way different applications recognize particular data sets. Furthermore, often times this migration needs to be done in a regulated environment.

The above challenges have caused many companies to believe that automated data migration is so customized that it is cheaper and more reliable to migrate data manually.

The Data Migration Paradigm Has Now Changed

LabAnswer has changed the manual vs. automated data migration paradigm with a proprietary tool and highly developed techniques. LabAnswer can develop a migration strategy and approach to migrate data from legacy lab systems to new systems utilizing a hybrid automated/manual load method. We utilize our understanding of current systems and our domain expertise to determine the data needed to be included, to establish the data object standards and naming conventions, and to collect the appropriate data for loading.

The LabAnswer support team helps with training, reviewing, validating, testing and supporting client employees and their subcontractors throughout the globe to load the static data for their LIMS implementation.
